UHMWPE Rod UHMWPE Rod is a high performing engineering plastic that is also known as Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene. This is an often overlooked engineering plastic that does have significant advantages and properties making UHMWPE Rod an excellent plastic for many engineering applications.
UHMWPE Rod Features
One of the key reasons that UHMWPE Rod is often specified is because of its incredible abrasion resistance. This engineering plastic has probably one of the best abrasion resistance levels of all the engineering plastics to make UHMWPE Rod probably unique at this level. Another key reason that UHMWPE Rod is chosen is because of the very low friction levels which make for very free running bearings or sliding surfaces. UHMWPE has similar low friction levels to that of PTFE which is very good indeed.
UHMWPE Rod Applications
Because UHMWPE Rod does have incredible resistance to abrasion, UHMWPE Rod is excellent for use in environments such as aggregate, cement or sand applications or typically any environment that includes similar highly abrasive materials. UHMWPE Rod is also successful for use in any plan bearing application that requires it to be very free running and of low friction and a combination of abrasion resistance and low friction is where UHMWPE Rod excels as an engineering plastic.
UHMWPE Rod - Low Friction
UHMWPE Rod has a very low co-efficient of friction and is similar to PTFE in this area. It will provide components that are very free running and have very low drag which will reduce energy consumption as components require less energy to move them.
